The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is a particle accelerator located at CERN. It is what is known as a “pre-injector” which means it will accelerate protons from 25 GeV to 450 GeV and continuously release them into the LHC so that the fixed target research in the LHC can operate continuously in an uninterrupted fashion.
